Information for Employers, there are two categories under Employer Sponsored Visas for Australia:

Temporary Visas

Subclass 457 Temporary Work (Skilled) Visa

This program is for employers to sponsor approved skilled workers to work in Australia on a temporary visa. Employers can nominate a number of positions for different occupations under the same sponsorship application. With this visa employers can employ overseas workers for a period of between one day and four years. Employers can be either:

  • Australian businesses
  • Overseas businesses

Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186)

The Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) enables employers to sponsor highly skilled workers to fill skilled vacancies in their business. Skilled workers can be recruited either from overseas, or from people temporarily in Australia. Employers must be lawfully operating in Australia, and the position must provide full time employment in Australia for at least two years and pay Market Salary. It has three streams:

1. The Temporary Transition Stream for Subcalss 457 Visa holders.
2. The Direct Entry Stream for people who have never or briefly worked in Australia.
3. The Agreement Stream for people sponsored by employer under labour/special agreement.

Permanent Visas

Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (Subclass 187)

The Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) enables employers in regional and low population growth areas of Australia to sponsor highly skilled workers either from overseas, or from people temporarily in Australia to fill skilled vacancies in their business. Employers must be lawfully operating in Australia, and the position must provide full time employment in Australia for two years. It has three streams:

1. The Temporary Transition Stream for Subcalss 457 Visa holders.
2. The Direct Entry Stream for people who have never or briefly worked in Australia.
3. The Agreement Stream for people sponsored by employer under labour/special agreement.
